Harmful Effect of Bad Cholesterol & Triglycerides.

This blog and its articles are intended as information and is not a dictionary on medical advice or treatments, one should always seek the advice a professional health care provider with health issues.

Triglycerides & Cholesterol and Homocysteine explained:

Statement by Jodi Knapp of Blue Heron health news said, that the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in 2014 that 26% of adults use statins.

According to a new study from the University of Queensland published in the journal Drugs and Aging, almost half of those statin users will develop type 2 diabetes as direct results of taking these drugs.

So if you have high cholesterol, your choice seems to be to die from heart attack or stroke or develop type 2 diabetes end of statement.

Triglycerides:  what is it and how are we affected.

First, we have to identify what causes us to have high or low triglycerides is it because of our lifestyle or is it based on nutrition only, or the lack of exercise or because of aging and does stress and anxiety has a role in the high levels of triglycerides. Yes to all of the above.

Triglycerides are a type of fats that circulate in our veins and arteries  throughout the body and the body need this fat to give us the energy  throughout a very busy day,  too much fat in the system will cause other and serious health issues if not controlled.

There are all kinds of contributing factors such as lifestyle, poor nutrition, weight gain, smoking and too much alcohol, genetics some prescription drugs will do it all, these are serious and should be taken care of by a health care provider  or go with  the all natural alternative like (Naturopathic medicine) as an example.

Cholesterol:

There are two kinds of cholesterol your  (LDL type) low-density lipoproteins and (HDL type) high- density lipoproteins, both of them are important, cholesterol has other functions and are necessary to cellar health and are manufactured in the liver and aids digestion. Having unhealthy levels of either one of them will cause symptoms like high blood pressure, poor circulation calcification of the arteries or narrower of the arteriesgangrene. Also will completely block arteries and the substance building up in your arteries is called plaque and it can be controlled with prescription medication that a health care provider will prescribe such as Statin drugs like Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor, just to name a few.

But there are people that have issues taking thembecause of the side-effects. That is one reason why, that you have people like myself searching the internet for an alternative solution, then the use of pharmaceutical drugs and there are all kinds of natural products out therebut not all are created equal.

Not all of them have been clinically tested,  like Doctor Sam`s Robbins products that have been through the science and each indigent clinically studied, tested and have proven results to back their claim and are patent pending.

Homocysteine: What is it and why is it important.

First, it`s one of the many common amino acids responsible  for the building of proteins and can be traced in red meat and in our  blood, too much of the red meat or too high of this amino acid in our systems will cause degradation levels of vitamins B6 & B12 and may be responsible for breaking the heart muscle and hardening of the arteries. This is one reason why having high levels of homocysteine are treated by our health care providers with vitamin supplements of B6 and B12 and requiring lifestyle changes also very important.

C-Reactive protein: What is it and how does it affect us.

It is a protein. The role of this protein and what it does to the body is as follows: it causes inflammation throughout the body, constricting proper blood flow to your vessels and arteries, causing inflammation to flare up and could rupture, because of plaques build up on your artery wall.

NBC news featured a story on this subject. Conclusion to the story is that it’s  helping save lives with a simple blood test to determent the risk of heart problems or stroke.

There have been a lot of discussion and debate on this subject of C- Reactive protein is now being widely studied on how this occurs and how to interpret and evaluate the results. The studies are not unanimous. The Journal of the American Medical Association analyzed data from approximately 100,000 people and concluded high levels of C-reactive protein does not cause heart disease.

Cholesterol levels: What numbers should you aim for?

Figuring out the best cholesterol levels to aim for can be confusing. But here’s some help setting your cholesterol number targets. By Mayo Clinic Staff

It’s important to keep your cholesterol levels within healthy limits. If you have other risk factors for developing heart disease, you need to be even more careful — especially with your low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or “bad,” cholesterol level.

Interpreting your cholesterol numbers

Cholesterol levels are measured in milligrams (mg) of cholesterol per deciliter (dL) of blood in the United States and some other countries. Canada and most European countries measure cholesterol in millimoles (mmol) per liter (L) of blood. Consider these general guidelines when you get your cholesterol test (lipid panel or lipid profile) results to see if your cholesterol falls in an ideal range.

Total cholesterol
(U.S. and some other countries)
Total cholesterol*
(Canada and most of Europe)

Below 200 mg/dL Below 5.2 mmol/L Desirable
200-239 mg/dL 5.2-6.2 mmol/L Borderline high
240 mg/dL and above Above 6.2 mmol/L High

The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends that a triglyceride level of 100 mg/dL (1.3 mmol/L) or lower is considered optimal. The AHA says this optimal level would improve your heart health. However, the AHA doesn’t recommend drug treatment to reach this level. Instead, for those trying to lower their triglycerides to this level, lifestyle changes such as diet, weight loss and physical activity are encouraged. Elevated triglycerides usually respond well to dietary and lifestyle changes.

LDL targets differ:

Because LDL cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease, it’s the main focus of cholesterol-lowering treatment. Your target LDL number can vary, depending on your underlying risk of heart disease.

Most people should aim for an LDL level below 130 mg/dL (3.4 mmol/L). If you have other risk factors for heart disease, your target LDL may be below 100 mg/dL (2.6 mmol/L). If you’re at very high risk of heart disease, you may need to aim for an LDL level below 70 mg/dL (1.8 mmol/L). In general, the lower your LDL cholesterol level is, the better. There is no evidence that really low LDL cholesterol levels are harmful.

You’re considered to be at a high risk of heart disease if you have or have had any of the following:

  • A previous heart attack or stroke
  • Artery blockages in your neck (carotid artery disease)
  • Artery blockages in your arms or legs (peripheral artery disease)
  • Diabetes

Now the best part is you can do something about these issues without pharmaceutical statin drugs,  you slowly withdraw by replacing some of your statin drug  with an all natural and organic alternative and fight cholesterol naturally and have better results as you slowly reduce prescription drug from your system only with the observation and advice of your health care provider.
